Sumbawa Whale Sharks Freediving Special – 3 Days / 2 Nights
A Freediver’s Ocean Dream
Discover one of Indonesia’s best-kept secrets — swimming alongside the largest fish in the sea in the remote and pristine waters of Sumbawa. This exclusive 3-day freediving adventure offers breathtaking whale shark encounters, vibrant coral gardens, and the serene charm of coastal Sumbawa. Designed for freedivers of all levels, the trip blends ocean exploration, relaxation, and authentic island hospitality.
Where Vertical Reefs Meet Infinite Blue
Just off the coast of Sumbawa lies Moyo Island, a pristine tropical paradise known for its lush jungle, crystal lagoons, and some of the most spectacular underwater landscapes in Indonesia. For freedivers, two sites stand out as absolute gems — The Great Wall Reef and Tanjung Menangis — offering both breathtaking beauty and thrilling depth.
The Great Wall Reef
Nicknamed the “underwater cliff” of Moyo, the Great Wall Reef is a dramatic vertical drop-off where the shallow coral gardens suddenly plunge into the deep blue. From the surface, you’ll see colorful plate corals and schools of reef fish just beneath you. As you descend, gorgonian sea fans, sponges, and overhangs appear along the wall, often visited by tunas, trevallies, and the occasional reef shark.
For freedivers, the wall offers the perfect playground — a clear reference line for depth training, a variety of marine life to explore at different levels, and visibility that often exceeds 30 meters.
Tanjung Menangis
Meaning “Crying Cape” in Indonesian, Tanjung Menangis is a stunning headland where currents bring nutrient-rich water, attracting schools of fusiliers, surgeonfish, and the occasional pelagic visitor. The reef slopes gently before dropping off, making it ideal for relaxed exploration or dynamic freediving along the contours.
Here, the underwater colors are vivid — soft corals sway in the current, anthias dance in the sunlight, and turtles glide peacefully between coral bommies. With calm surface conditions on the right tide, it’s a dream site for freedivers looking for both scenery and serenity.
Why Freedivers Love These Sites
Exceptional Visibility — often crystal-clear, perfect for deep lines or photography.
Diverse Topography — from shallow coral gardens to sheer walls.
Marine Biodiversity — from macro critters to big pelagic fish.
Low Crowds — remote and rarely visited, offering a true sense of exploration.
